Handmaids Girl-Child Education Programme seeks to address inequalities in access to education. This project is out to solely help orphaned/vulnerable girls who would otherwise be denied access to education at all level. The project will be carried out in Kenya and will initially benefit 80 girls in primary, secondary schools and colleges. If enough funds will be available, the project will seek to increase its beneficiaries to 200 or even hundred in the next five years.
The girls will selectively be taken from various ethnic backgrounds. However, the underlying factor is that they all are girls, they come from poor families, they would be left out of the school system if not helped and basically no foundation for a better future for them and their siblings. Their ages range between 6 and 25 years. The girl-child if not helped from the grass root would remain victims of sexual abuse and constantly exposed to prostitution, drugs and other risky behaviour.
Currently we are supporting thirty-five children in primary (31), secondary (3) and skill training (1) in different boarding schools; two that have been trained in Fashion Designing and motor mechanic respectively.
To address the plight of orphaned and vulnerable girls, we purchased a five acres piece of land on which we are putting up a boarding primary school and believe that with this institution in place we will be able to reach out to as many children as we can possibly get funds to assist.
